Two Days of Icey, Empty & Pumping Porthleven

Here's some pre-surf iphone shots from the last couple of days at levy. This first one you can see a dot in front of the wave - that's someone paddling out. It was firing, and due to the swell forecasting sites hyping it up, the main reef was packed, but because the swell was from the south the best waves were on the pier, which due to the fact it was barreling it's tits off meant just a few people on bodyboards wanted anything to do with it, which was fine by us.

This was from this morning (tuesday), a bit smaller, but less crowded and pumping again on both reefs. I think the cold helped keep people away. My suit got pretty iced between these sessions, but as testament to it's effectiveness, once I'd got it on I was actually pretty warm in the sea. Even after 4 hours. The Prodigy 6/5/4 did me proud. Bring on the rest of the winter swells!

One Hour of Power

This morning was pumping but packed, and only good for about an hour. I managed to get one of the bigger ones that came through as soon as i got in, just before the swell suddenly died. Brooke Mason caught the next one, which was one of the best big barrels I've seen in Cornwall in ages (the jammy bastard). Then about thirty of us all waited out to sea for more than an hour for the next big set - which never came.  So although i was pretty jealous of Brooke, I was stoked i'd managed i grab this one before it all went tits up. Bring on the winter swells!

Irish September Barrels

I popped over to Ireland again the other day. Some bloody crackers coming through. Watch out for them in the mags. Here's a sample of one of micks shots...

The day the crowds blew away

Porthleven got good today. Would have been all time, if it wasnt for the 70mph gusts. On the plus side though, it meant that myself, Jack Johns, Alex Wake and a couple of others were left with 3-5ft pumping Porthleven to ourselves all Sunday afternoon. Lovely. The Tiki Summer suit stood up to the cold nicely, might I add.
